Brian & Rory

I’ve known Rory since I was 2 years old.  We were in daycare together back in Pittsburgh.  He lives in Dublin now and so when I heard he was going to get married to Brian I couldn’t resist offering to photograph their awesome wedding.  Julian and I flew to Dublin, spent a day exploring the city, then rented a car and drove up to the Slieve Russel Hotel which was almost on the border of Northern Ireland.  Brian is Irish and has the family to prove it(!)  A great deal of Rory’s family flew over from the states.  I hadn’t seen his parents for 28 years, but they remembered me, and I them.  As ever, we acted and felt just like any of the other guests.  Most weddings we shoot are around 80 – 100 guests, but Brian and Rory had 300 guests, and it was black tie to boot, so it was a little different from our usual weddings, and posed some different challenges and shooting conditions.  It was actually nice to have more people to photograph.  Both Rory and Brian are dancers, and Brian has an Irish Dance school, so his students were present to perform that night.  We’ve never experienced anything quite like it before and it occurred to me that it’s a little like break dancing – it’s a bit of a dance off.

The weather was mixed and it both shone and poured throughout the day.  Brian and Rory both wore custom made suits from Aston Formal in Dublin, and their boutonnieres were done by Signature Flowers.
