East Sussex Village Hall Summer Fete Wedding – Sarah and Becca

I had such a great time photographing Sarah and Becca.  When I met them, they were already nearing their 10th anniversary.  These two lovely ladies met way back in 6th form and have been best friends ever since.  They knew from the start that they wanted it to be a relaxed day with family and friends and more importantly an opportunity to create their own traditions.

Sarah and Becca chose to do their wedding prep together and with their very best friends.  They rented a beautiful holiday home in Lewes.  It made the perfect backdrop for capturing all the nerves and pre-wedding fun.

Their outfits contained special family touches.  Becca’s mum handmade her ‘something blue’ belt and Sarah’s finely tailored waistcoat.  Becca hand made her headpiece and wore Tom’s shoes to match her dress.

I think by far, the most exciting part of the wedding from Becca was the fulfillment of a life long dream to ride in a vintage VW camper van.  Despite the nerves, both ladies were able to enjoy the ride.  We paused briefly upon arrival to get the all important picture of the two of them in their amazing wedding car.

Their wedding took place at the village hall in Iford.  All the details were done by the brides themselves with help from friends and family the night before.  Becca’s mum once again let her sewing expertise rip and made meters and meters of colourful bunting to decorate the hall and outside space.  Guests were sat at tables named after significant locations in Brighton from the brides life together.

After Sarah and Becca created their guests, they went straight into the ceremony.  This was held outside under two lovely trees. Once again adorned with a personalised fabric banner made by Becca’s mum.  The ceremony itself, led by a Humanist officiant, was a combination of humorist personal vows, and the reading of a Johnny Cash song.

The remainder of the afternoon was spent relaxing in the sun outside the hall, playing games and guitars.  An impressive picnic spread was laid out by The Garden Kitchen Co.  Sarah and Becca and I, took this opportunity to go for a walk to the neighbouring famers field for some relaxed couples portraits.  They were such troopers they even climbed up onto the bails of hay for a photo.

As the day grew late, despite our full bellies, we managed to fit in the epic wood fired pizza made onsite in a vintage Citroen van by Pizza Amoré.

The evening wrapped up with all the guests throwing their very best shapes on the dance floor to the live stylings of Mike Newsham.  Of course, no wedding is complete without the traditional cake cutting; Sarah and Becca’s was lovingly made by one of the guests.  I don’t know how late the last guest stayed.  I left them by the fire pit toasting marshmallows and relishing Sarah and Becca’s incredible day.
